5.1 Update - How Do You Write Your Long Mayor's Message?
I admit, my welcome message is quite lengthy! I like to put my trade preferences, my party start times and whatever else I wanna say.
When you normally type this is the Mayors Message window - it doesn't like you to type a very long message - so I usually would've opened a message from one of my neighbours - typed what I wanted to post and then copied and pasted to be my message. I tried doing this last night and ended up sending it by accident! LOL- I also couldn't go back and edit as per normal.
What do you do for yours? Or anyone know of another way to do this?
Many Thanks
Janet
As a fellow writer of long welcome messages I use copy and paste. I write something out of the game then paste it into the window.
***Just be careful not to do it too long I had pm before telling me that my welcome message caused their screens to freeze and prevent them from entering my village:0
I also want to point out there is a cool addition to the message centre that I don't think many people have discovered yet. Over your name on the neighbour list...there is a speech bubble where you write 140 characters such as your latest parties or whatever...and is much easier for your neighbours to see rather than having to go and visit your land and look at the welcome message.
I'm hoping in future this will cut the need for invites because the information is easily available for anyone to see.
Hi Seherzada...... Can you elaborate more about the message thing. I've see that you can post some thing like "what's on your mind" kinda thing. It's in the area were it shows the other Zlive games. Is that what your talking about? I hope I'm making sense. LOL!!
@Seherzada. Yes I cannot seem to locate that bubble you are referring to. Could you explain please or post a screen shot? Thanks
Yes Wyndyridge is right. It's the what's. ' on your mind' that Im describing.
I dont how to do screen shots or am I good at explaining. So perhaps I shouldn't have wrote anything.....
But it simple to do just click on it. Type your message or what's on your mind and press return.
You will find this on your main page that you have to go to, to change your setting or log into different accounts
Yes girl I got it. I just wrote in it "what's this area for" let's see what neighbor of mine finds it and responds to me. heee heee!!!
Oh thanks very much Seherzada - actually it didn't even enter my mind to copy and paste from outside the game - that works perfectly! And Good idea to use the what's on your mind thing too - instead of invites...
Much appreciated x
I was wondering who sees this message. Unfortunately I haven't had time until now to test it out. My message says "this space left intentionally blank."
You can also compose your staus message in a mail message, and copy from there. Just don't click send... I've done that a few times.
But please don't make them too long and make your trade prefs and party info (if applicable) easy to find. I can't tell you how many times I have to reload the village again because my initial scan of the status message missed something important.. like the "no" in front of "24", etc. Yes i admit it... I don't always read every status message completely through before entering. It's because... i might miss a GO, or a Jamb, or... Hey! I'm trying to get famous... and put on Masquerades... and stuff. =P

That's a great idea! I'm going to do the same thing! : )
Edit: From what I can tell, the only way you can see someone else's "What are you up to?" message, is to click on their username while in the conversations window. So not real useful unless you have conversations with all your neighbors. But a nice creative add-on I suppose.
I think of you pullul up a friend in the message center, that is where you see that bubble message.
I am still typing my greeting message in an email an then cut & paste it into my welcome message. I just hit backspace when I'm done copying and delete it in the email so I don't accidentally send it. Still, I'm sure I'll goof one of these days and it will send.
@ Rich I'm sorry I'm not very good at doing brief welcome messages:-
Of course I have to greet my neighbours. Then I have my current and up coming parties. Then I have information about my bonuses and what trades you accept. After that there is other news such as is the weekly schedule available. Am I busy this week or partying loads. And finally I have to thank all my neighbours for coming.
I find that really hard to condense unfortunately. Though as we are neighbours I can tell you can ignore most if not all of that if you want. I never decline orders and if I did it would be by accident and I would probably send you a 20 paragraph email begging your forgiveness...and telling you how sorry I am;0
As for party times...I think this is a skill many of us are doing now on our trade runs... We kind of make a mental note in a brief flash of what is going on in those of our neighbours with parties that we would like to visit whether that is a masquerade or a picnic.... Then note that down whether mentally or on paper and come back at that time if it is convenient for you.
If you don't do that and just cruise for one parties...then you can safely ignore any welcome messages and just enter and see what is available on seeing a balloon.
I think my only duty here is not to have my message so long that I crash somebody's iPhone. I really try hard to avoid that. I have neighbours who prefer long welcome messages and those who prefer short. There are advantages to both types ...and just choose which is best for ourselves.
As for the "what am I doing now" speech bubbles I disagree and think it is a great idea....and so much easier. It avoids the spam of either constant questions of when the next masquerade is or receiving tons of invites for tea parties. Just put it on that space. It is very easy to find.
It also makes the game more communicative for those who want to. For example on mine I'm doing a (non trade nations) related question of the day ...or thoughts or whatever on it. And only very briefly my current/next party.
I'm sure once people find their way around much more ...this will become very widespread .
There is a news section ( which being z2live doesn't work yet) but I'm guessing (or if not it should) be where you can quickly see all your neighbours latest updates. So you know who has just started an opera and who has a masquerade in 1 hour. How easy is that!!!!!
I wish there was some indicaton that you had put a "what's on your mind" message when I scroll through my friends' list. As it is, it still says only "last Played: Trade Nations", and looks just like all the other friends' entries that have no message. I just put a question in mine, and wonder whether ANY of my neighbors will see it, never mind respond to it...
Abiko...I see your message and responded to it. I think it is just a means to get more conversations going. Honestly, I do not have too much time for that. Between parties, trading, and crashing...not much spare time.
I copy from the Notes app and paste into the TN message. Unfortunately with 5.1 it no longer preserves my line breaks.
I just use my notepad then copy and paste it into my pop up window.
I've noticed lately that really really long status messages are cut off on the iTouch screen, if the owners order preferences aren't listed first I just close my eyes and click on a shop and hope for the best! ;)
If your message is a novel - to be frank, I won't read it.. "... 4 hours on sushi, 6 on tea" and on and on. Sorry.. I wish to clear the page quickly, and not deal with an array of restriction. If i get deleted for the infraction,I'm ok with that.. Status quo was 8 hrs, seems to have changed due to tokens to "max", and I've adjusted.
I keep mine short, and to the point, and change it often..
-Z
<LandMessage MaxLength="80" /> <Inventory maxSlots="100" />
This is the limit.
A list of all our neighbors status messages would be great for looking for party start times. I've noticed more and more people posting their party times which is great, espescially for saving a slot if you know there's a good party starting later in the day,
Z2 could resolve a lot of these issues by making their message system include a "Group" option. That way we could create groups for those we communicate with frequently. Then it would be a simple matter of selecting a group, writing the message, and a single send.
I was trying to message my best neighbors with my party schedule in advance. With crashes and the time needed for individual messages, it has all become to time consuming. RL is literally screaming at me about the amount of time TN takes, so I'm only hosting and posting parties on the message board.
Sorry for the lack of care, neighbors, but hey, I gotta live with these people.
Thanks for the copy/paste tips! Was wondering how some of my neighbors wrote their (sometimes overly) long messages.
Lately I've been seeing ones with icons in them. Anyone know how to do that? (Before I resort to bugging a neighbor ;-)

I use an app called Emoji that gives me a separate keyboard of fun icons. The app was free - you just download it and then add the keyboard in under settings. There are instructions with the app.
I have Evernote and Emoji. I type whatever I want to say and use any appropriate symbols then copu and paste into my status message.
I keep my status messages very short and to the point though. I don't have trade restrictions so thankfully don't have to include all that.

Janet I have the same problem! What's even stranger if you put the cursor
in the front or middle of the message that you've already wrote you can continue typing, but not at the end. It seems it's very touchy because some times it doesn't have issues at all. I thought at first it was me using emoji cons, but it made no difference if they were there or not. If you figure it out please also let me know.
